The VR Digital Artist is responsible for all aspects of creating and sourcing 2D and 3D digital art and design for use in digital and virtual environments.

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Duties

Generate and Customize Complete 3D Models and Visuals (75%)

  • Uses industry-standard 3D modelling applications to model and construct polygonal visual representations of objects
  • UV-maps 3D models and applies textures
  • Sources textures online, captures them with photography, or generates them with software
  • Builds complete skeletal representations of 3D models and skins the 3D models using appropriate vertex weighting techniques, either manually or through software automation tools as appropriate
  • Animates 3D model skeletons and vertex deformations to create re-usable actions for the team’s visualization engine
  • Creates and adjusts particle systems as necessary for visualization purposes
  • Creates 2D art assets as necessary using both raster and vector techniques

Project Planning (15%)

  • Provides art direction for projects
  • Sketches storyboards and concepts
  • Interacts with clients to capture and realize client requirements

Maintenance (10%)

  • Develops and enforces best practices for asset creation and optimization
  • Keeps up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in digital content creation, augmented reality, and virtual reality

Qualifications

Minimum of a high school diploma and at least 2 years working experience or a college diploma in 3D content creation, including working knowledge of:

  • Modelling
  • Rigging
  • Texturing
  • Animating
  • At least one of:
    • Autodesk 3DS Max
    • Autodesk Maya
    • Blender
    • Adobe Photoshop
    • Adobe Illustrator

Additionally, the individual should have:

  • People skills to collaborate with others and be a good team player
  • Ability to interact effectively within a dynamic team-based environment and content creation pipeline
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
