This position is for six (6) months from the date of hire with a possibility of extension.

The Mechanical Design Lead provides design and engineering services within a multidisciplinary team to support new product development, technology research, testing, prototype production and project management for automation of various construction related operations. In this engineering role, you will be responsible for investigating new business opportunities and supporting tests and troubleshooting on existing machines and IoT project


  • Lead the mechanical engineering team in the conceptual and detailed design, including development of prototype industrial machinery
  • Lead the development of machine mechanical design, including detailed 3D CAD models and drawings
  • Perform detailed mechanical calculations for structural analysis, vibrations analysis and finite element analysis
  • Responsible for cross-disciplinary design reviews
  • Organize and maintain existing engineering records
  • Develop and coordinate validation, testing and commissioning procedures
  • Communicate with project managers, including industry partner personnel, to understand the needs and requirements of new projects
  • Responsible of project planning and scheduling: scope of work, client specifications
  • budget, documentation, reports
  • Responsible of communication with suppliers, manufacturers, sales, etc. for product quoting and purchasing
  • Coordinate, teach, support and supervise a small team of mechanical engineering co-op students


  • Bachelors (with 2+years work experience) or Master's in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA preferred
  • A strong background in mechanical design and structural analysis is required
  • Working knowledge of robotics, materials and/or design of experiments is preferred
  • Experience handling machinery or construction tools is preferred
  • Excellent planning and time management skills is required
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and other CAD softwares
  • Familiarity with electrical systems and controls is preferred
  • Familiarity with Canadian standards and codes (CSA) is preferred
  • Strong leadership, oral communication and writing skill is a must
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills to work effectively within the team
