Sessional Instructor: Language and Literacy

The Department of Elementary Education is currently accepting applications for a full-time sessional instructor for Fall 2019 and Winter 2020. The contract would include the teaching of 8 sections over 8 months or 10 sections over 10 months. The teaching assignment would likely consist of the following courses:

EDU 100: Contexts of Education

EDEL 305: Language Arts in the Elementary School

EDEL 404: Developing Literacy: Pre-School to Grade Three

EDEL 413: Teaching Language and Literacy in Multilingual Classrooms

EDEL 496: Teaching Language Arts in Cross Cultural Environments

Candidates must have a Master’s or PhD (preferred) in the area of Language and Literacy Education and post-secondary teaching experience at an undergraduate level. Experience teaching at a graduate level would be an asset.

Preference will be given to candidates with a strong classroom teaching background, and with demonstrated experience with teaching for diversity in elementary classrooms. Candidates need to have experience in the following areas: the teaching of children’s literature, teaching language and literacy in early childhood contexts, and teaching in the multilingual classroom. Experience with online teaching is also considered an asset and the teaching may require some travel to U of A collaborative programs.

Salary will be commensurate with experience in accordance with the Academic Teaching Staff (ATS) Agreement.
