The Faculty of Education invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Secondary Education. The Department is a vibrant and collegial unit that fosters excellence in pre-service preparation of approximately 1,400 teachers through courses in curriculum and teaching. The Department also supports the progression of approximately 100 graduate students. Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Education, the Chair is responsible for the academic leadership of the Department. The successful candidate will provide dynamic and innovative leadership during an important period of renewal and strategic visioning in the Faculty. The role includes support of the work of many new professors, developing collaborative research initiatives, leading program development, and recruiting graduate students. Applicants will have strong academic qualifications and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to motivate and work productively with faculty, staff and students and effective interaction with the larger university and professional community. Demonstrated successful administrative and leadership experience will be preferred. 

Interested applicants will be full-time faculty members who have a tenured appointment in a relevant Faculty/Department at the University of Alberta. The appointment is normally for a five-year term, and will commence January 1, 2020. The application deadline is Friday, September 20, 2019. Applicants should submit a current curriculum vitae, statement of research interests, statement of teaching philosophy, a statement of leadership philosophy, example of recently published work, and the names of three referees.
