Reporting to the Vice-Dean, the Marketing & Communications Manager (M&C Manager) provides strategic vision and leadership in marketing, communications, issues management, and public affairs for the Faculty of Arts.  The M&C Manager will align the vision of the Faculty with broader marketing and communications strategies, while ensuring that the team implements the Faculty’s internal and external communications in a coherent, cohesive, and coordinated fashion across all platforms (print, digital strategy, in person events, and social media), as well as serve as the Faculty’s key media liaison. The M&C Manager is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of marketing and communication initiatives and strategies that increase public awareness of the Faculty's accomplishments, supports student recruitment, informs current students and faculty, and addresses and provides support to the Dean with respect to these issues as matters arise.  In carrying out their role, the incumbent will oversee the development and implementation of strategic plans for marketing, communications, and events with consistent branding standards, key messages, editorial and graphic guidelines.  The M&C Manager will evaluate the performance of the Faculty’s marketing and communications efforts to ensure these are helping the Faculty achieve its goals and objectives. As well, this position will ensure that the Faculty marketing and communications team supports and collaborates with Faculty Advancement, Recruitment, and Student Engagement as well as with University partners to ensure that our services are effective, serve the highest priority needs, are efficiently deployed and that our messages are consistent. The M&C Manager will also provide functional leadership and act as a resource to other units within the Faculty on strategic internal and external marketing, recruitment efforts and communications issues. The M&C Manager will help reinforce the public face of the Faculty in order to enhance its core activities and will lead a team of marketing and communication professionals. 

Education and Experience:

  • A university degree in a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in developing marketing and communications strategies, including market analysis, target market identification, business alignment and implementation plans
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience as a marketing and communications professional in a complex organization; experience within the post-secondary sector or government preferred
  • A demonstrated record of leadership in a complex administrative environment with multiple stakeholder groups, audiences and leadership teams
  • A strategic high-level thinker with an extensive background and demonstrated accomplishments in internal and external marketing and communications
  • Advanced knowledge of marketing and communications strategies, frameworks, principles and techniques
  • Superior understanding of the various communications tools (i.e. web, newsletters, special events, brochures, video, social media)
  • Strong writing and editing skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate complex issues in an accessible format
  • Credibility, collegiality and self-assurance working with all levels of staff at the Faculty and the University and with external stakeholders
  • Seasoned manager with experience in developing and leading a strong and cohesive team of professionals

This regular continuing position is in accordance with the Administrative and Professional Officer agreement and offers a comprehensive benefits package which can be viewed at Faculty & Staff Benefits. The annual salary range is $62,475 to $104,123; salary is commensurate with skills and experience.
