Full Professor - Scientific Director of the Canadian Glycomics Network

The Faculty of Science at the University of Alberta invites applications for a tenured position at the Full Professor level. The individual will serve as the Scientific Director of the Canadian Glycomics Network (GlycoNet, and will have an appointment in a Department within the Faculty of Science. 

GlycoNet, funded in 2015 by the Canadian Network of Centres of Excellence, has a mission of identifying novel solutions to unmet medical needs through glycomics and involves more than 140 research groups across Canada. Supported by more the $38M in funding (2015–2020), GlycoNet is a not-for-profit corporation with its administrative office located in the University Alberta, Faculty of Science.  

The Scientific Director is appointed by and is accountable to the Board of Directors. Reporting to the Board, the Scientific Director is responsible for overall Network leadership, setting and implementing the scientific vision and strategic direction. The Scientific Director is given full-time release from teaching duties and receives a research stipend, subject to satisfactory annual performance evaluation by the Board.  As a member of the academic staff in the Faculty of Science, the individual will be subject to annual review processes of the Faculty.

We seek a proven leader who complements the Faculty’s existing strength by their track record of excellence in teaching, mentoring, research training, outreach, professional service, and a demonstrated commitment to supporting the involvement of diverse groups in research. 

Applicants will have a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or an aligned field; demonstrated accomplishments and an internationally-recognized research program directed towards the role of complex carbohydrates in biological processes.  Previous experience in administration is desired. 

The appointment will be at the Full Professor level and the salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
