The Alberta Academic Health Network (AAHN), in partnership with the University of Alberta, University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services is seeking a Director of Operations who will actively participate in the development and implementation of the AAHN goals and strategies.  The Director will be an authentic and driven leader who will be responsible for multiple initiatives as defined by the executive committee, which is comprised of senior university and industry leaders. The overarching goal of the AAHN and its members is to work together through innovative structures and processes to develop, implement and advance integrated clinical care in conjunction with high quality, innovative health education and seamless translational research from bench to bedside to boardroom and to the community.

By building strong stakeholder relationships within the University of Alberta and with Alberta Health, Alberta Health Services, Alberta Innovates and University of Calgary, you will gather recommendations from subject matter expert working groups on developing important initiatives and how to move them forward such as the province-wide Precision Health Initiative.

Reporting to the Chair, responsibilities include:

Work with various joint committees to strategize, develop and implement strategic initiatives:

  • Develops the process for strategic direction; Maintains frameworks, governance, and operational structures for AAHN
  • Conducts necessary research and provide recommendations; Develops communication and business plans
  • Assess project risks and barriers for implementation; Develop appropriate risk mitigation strategies
  • Creates and manages financial project budgets and AAHN operational budget
  • Develops detailed milestones to drive the project strategies and plans and manage the   project
  • Develop project metrics and measures indicators of success
  • Produce regular progress and status reports for Executive Committee and key stakeholders

Provide strategic support to the AAHN Executive Committee and working groups:

  • Identifies and recruits members for the working groups and engages members as necessary to operationalize initiatives
  • Administratively manages meetings and activities across the province; Develops terms of reference and meeting schedules; Coordinates meetings for working groups, facilitates conversation, organizes information for meetings, writes documents such as overviews and plans
  • Acts as a liaison with Executive Committee, working groups, government, sponsors and other stakeholders

To be successful as the Director, you will possess:

  • Graduate degree (Masters or PhD) in a health and/or research field, such as Pharmacy, with knowledge and/or experience in precision health and a Project Management Certificate or other project  management training
  • 5 year+ project management experience including demonstrated ability to develop multiple major research proposals/business plans/strategic plans, coordinate activities, deliver projects within budget and on time and close  projects
  • Knowledge in the field of healthcare and academic institutions with a working knowledge of academic  research  administration policies/issues and pre-clinical/clinical research/activities
  • Demonstrated ability to work in complex environments to seek and elicit support by networking and establishing effective partnerships  with multiple  stakeholders
  • Superior professional standards with advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong ability to work effectively on a team as well as be self-motivated and proactive; Must be able to make independent judgments within the context of established policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate work activities will varying professional levels with confidence
  • Demonstrated  ability to be organized, detail oriented and task driven
  • Advanced technical abilities in Microsoft Office products

In accordance with the Temporary Administrative and Professional Staff (TAPS) Agreement, this position is an initial appointment of one year, with the possibility of renewal of an additional year, and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits and annual salary range of $65,906 - $109,772.  A review of applications will being on November 9, 2018.
