Applications are invited for tenured or tenure-track faculty positions at all ranks in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, including School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering and Nasseri School of Building Science and Engineering.  In addition to regular faculty positions, we are considering candidates for endowed chairs and professorships, Canada Research Chairs, and NSERC Industrial Research Chair programs. Exceptional candidates are being sought in all areas of Mining Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, and Civil Engineering (including construction engineering and management, environmental, geotechnical/geoenvironmental, structural, transportation, and water resources engineering). Priority will be given to the areas of building science and engineering (see below), construction engineering and management, pavement and road construction, transportation planning and operation, environmental hydraulic engineering, and water and wastewater treatment.

The Nasseri School of Building Science and Engineering was established in 2014 within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering to build a world class educational and research program in the multi-disciplinary areas of building science and engineering by adopting new construction materials and technologies and increased use of information technologies. Exceptional candidates are sought in the following areas: building sciences (including thermal, acoustics, and indoor air), industrialized construction, innovative structural materials and systems, smart buildings, traditional and alternative energy sources, building mechanical systems, and sustainable community design and architecture.

All candidates are expected to be licensed professional engineers with eligibility for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) within the first two years from the date of hire and must have a PhD in Civil, Mining, or Petroleum Engineering, or in related fields. Successful candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to teaching and research at the university level and are expected to develop a significant independent research program, supervise graduate students and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in their fields of interest.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (including School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering) is committed to securing a position among the leading schools in North America. With a present complement of 64 professors, research in the Department is vigorous and covers all major areas of Civil, Mining, and Petroleum Engineering. Our graduate program attracts outstanding students from the best schools worldwide and presently has an enrollment of close to 500 students, including approximately 250 PhD students.
