The University of Alberta Libraries, Canada’s second largest research library, seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Head, Faculty Engagement (Health Sciences).  Health Sciences refers specifically to the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Rehabilitation Medicine, as well as the School of Public Health.

Reporting to an Associate University Librarian, the Head, Faculty Engagement (Health Sciences) will coordinate one or more system wide teams, developing objectives, setting goals and priorities, implementing services, and assessing results. The Head, Faculty Engagement (Health Sciences) communicates the needs of the health science faculties for improvements and innovation in University of Alberta Library services. This position directly supervises 8 librarians at the Scott Health Sciences Library, setting and evaluating expectations, and is responsible to set expectations (with relevant supervisors) and provide ongoing guidance to members of one or more University of Alberta Library teams. The Head, Faculty Engagement (Health Sciences) contributes to Library administration via the Library’s Operations Team.

Qualifications include:

  • MLS degree from an accredited library school

  • At least 3 to 5 years relevant experience, including supervision.  

  • Applicants must possess a strong service orientation, excellent communication skills, a thorough understanding of a variety of modes for delivery of services

  • Interest in implementing new service paradigms and in evaluation of current practice

  • Superior management and leadership skills

  • Commitment to cooperative action and innovative solutions 

  • Demonstrated interest in research and evaluation and the goals of the Library and the profession.

This is a tenure-track appointment is classified at the Librarian 2 level with a current annual salary range of $86,744 – $144,452 per annum. Librarians at the University of Alberta have academic status and participate in a comprehensive benefits program found at Faculty & Staff Benefits.
