The Division of General Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta, and the Clinical Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services, Edmonton Zone are accepting applications for an academic General Surgeon with colorectal subspecialty training. The successful applicant will be based primarily at the University of Alberta Hospital with a flexible start date of approximately March 1, 2019.

The University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry has been internationally recognized as being among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. Alberta Health Services is Canada’s largest and only provincial health region providing services for a population of over 4.2 million people.

The Division of General Surgery presently consists of 54 General Surgeons and provides service to the City of Edmonton and surrounding communities. The Division provides specialized care in all aspects of General Surgery including hepatobiliary surgery and transplantation, general surgical oncology, head and neck surgery, endocrine surgery, colorectal surgery, vascular surgery, upper GI surgery, bariatric surgery, breast surgery, and minimally invasive surgery.

The successful candidate will be joining a busy Colorectal and General Surgery Acute Care practice.  The position will have a job description that includes a commitment to clinical care delivery, education, and research, and will include elective operative time, acute care surgery call coverage, and excellent access to endoscopy. Remuneration will be on a fee-for-services basis through billings submitted by the physician to Alberta Health. The successful candidate will care for surgical inpatients and outpatients, and participate in an on-call rotation supporting the University of Alberta Hospital and the entire Edmonton Zone. This individual will also receive a clinical faculty appointment with the Department of Surgery and take part in the undergraduate and post-graduate surgery curricula at the University of Alberta. Opportunities for further academic involvement may be considered in the future for the appropriate candidate.

Applicants must hold an MD or equivalent with completed training in General Surgery and must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. This individual must have obtained the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Fellowship in General Surgery or equivalent as well as a Colorectal Surgery Fellowship. Special consideration will be given to applicants with advanced MIS and IBD experience.
