The Kidney Health Research Group (KHRG) is a non-profit research organization housed in the Department of Medicine at the University of Alberta. KHRG performs cutting edge research that improves the care and quality of life for people living with kidney disease.  

The KHRG group is currently hiring for the position of Statistician. Our main priority is supporting research that improves the care, quality of life, and health of people living with kidney disease, including those on dialysis or with a kidney transplant. KHRG is currently doing research on:

  • Better access to kidney transplantation, especially for residents of rural communities
  • Improving the quality of life for patients with kidney failure
  • New and enhanced ways of receiving dialysis treatment – including home treatment
  • Improving ways to prevent kidney failure in Alberta and in developing countries

DUTIES:

  • Researches statistical aspects of the design; searches, obtains, and reviews literature to determine appropriate statistical techniques as required
  • Develops statistical elements of the grant proposal; drafts and/or critically revises appropriate proposal sections; creates budgets
  • Data management; merges and cleans datasets, provides input into additional data requirements and restrictions
  • Statistical analysis; implements statistical procedures
  • Consultations; collaborates withe Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators
  • Input into manuscripts, reports and presentations; drafts and/or critically revises methodology and results sections for publications, prepares tables and graphs, critically reviews conclusions and other elements of the document
  • Systematic reviews and meta-analysis
    • operationalization and management
    • input into methodological design and procedures, specifically to provide input into selection criteria, quality assessment, and data extraction and verification
    • coordinate and provide input into systematic literature search strategies
  • Randomized Controlled Trials
    • member of steering committees
    • member of data safety and monitoring boards
    • liaison between data management teams and investigator teams
    • serves as emergency contact for blinded treatment allocations
  • Population Cohort Studies
    • liaison with third party registry programmers

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters or PhD in Statistics 
  • A Degree within Mathematical Sciences or equivalent
  • Five years experience in the Medical Statistics field 
  • Professional accreditation from the Statistical Society of Canada recommended
  • Advanced statistical design and modeling skills with specialized expertise in systematic reviews and meta-analysis, survival analysis and general multivariable analyses
  • Intermediate computer programming skills
  • Data management courses and experience
  • Technical writing abilities and good verbal communication

In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement, this full time (FTE 1.0) position has a term length of one year, with the possibility of extension, and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits and an annual salary range of $58,210 - $80,050. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
