 This competition is limited to those eligible to work in Canada only. Work is currently done remotely; however, in-office work when it resumes will be done at the University's North Campus located in Edmonton, Alberta. Preference will be given to applicants located within the Capital Region.

Position Summary

The University of Alberta is currently undergoing a significant administrative and academic transformation. This position presents an exciting opportunity to lead projects and initiatives directly related to process improvement and the streamlining of existing systems and procedures across all levels of the University. The Project Managers will be an integral member of the Service Excellence Team (SET) which is leading the University of Alberta through this structural shift. You will work very closely with an external consulting firm (NOUS) to deliver on key milestones established in accordance with SET and the Service Excellence Steering Committee. 

You will report directly to the Program Director of SET, and be responsible for managing all aspects of projects that support this significant administrative transformation over their entire lifecycle. You will interact closely with colleagues and team members, external consultants, executives and high-level staff within the university making this position highly collaborative and influential in the future of the University of Alberta. You will drive the implementation of solutions to current sticking points that have been identified through strategic and effective leadership of project management while delivering timely results using proven project management methodology.

Planing, Organization and Overseeing Service Excellence Team Projects 

  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders, defining project scope, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Develop work plans, identifying all tasks necessary to complete project workstreams.
  • Assign tasks/assignments to project team members, monitor status, provide support, ensure project tasks are completed and meet deadlines.
  • Coach and collaborate with diverse team of business analysts, organizational consultants and HR partners to fully understand barriers or problems and help develop solutions or countermeasures and escalate to the Program Director as appropriate.
  • Reprioritize or adjust work plans for changing conditions.
  • Facilitate project team meetings and work sessions.

Development and Execution of Appropriate Project Controls

  • Collaborate with the Administrative Transformation Lead, Program Director, Executive Lead and external consultants to determine needed project controls.
  • Design and communicate controls that provide appropriate project management methods.
  • Identify risk and create mitigation strategies.

Communication on Project Status

  • Prepare standard reports on status, scope and schedule.
  • Certify completion of project deliverables.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other project manager(s), the Administrative Transformation Lead, Program Director, Executive Lead and external consultants as necessary.


  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • 8 or more years of project management experience with increasing responsibility (experience within an Academic environment is an asset)
  • Certification in project management tools and methodology is an asset
  • Additional skills & abilities:
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize project resources and tasks.
    • Excellent ability to relay messages and communicate project management topics in layman terms.
    • Demonstrated ability of working collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders.
    • Proven high levels of creativity and flexibility in similar roles.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills using proven methods.
    • Excellent communication and listening skills.
    • Strong team leadership skills

In accordance with the Temporary Librarian, Administrative and Professional Staff (TLAPS) Agreement, these positions (2) carry an initial appointment of approximately one year from date of hire with the possibility of extension and offer a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits and an annual salary range of $61,391 - $102,355.
