The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FoMD), University of Alberta, and the Edmonton Zone, Alberta Health Services (AHS) invite applications for a full-time academic tenured position as Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. The academic position search is concurrent with the Alberta Health Services Edmonton Zone Section Chief of Ophthalmology search as a combined role may be possible depending on the strengths and interests of the successful candidate. 

The position requires a senior clinician with a successful track record of leadership and administration who will lead with excellence in education, research and clinical care delivery. The successful candidate must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta. 

The Chair and Zone Section Chief will be responsible for a Department of six full-time and over 30 part-time faculty. The Chair, together with the Office of the Dean, will be responsible for the undergraduate and postgraduate training programs and for the further development of a graduate research program (MSc/PhD  in Medical Sciences). The Zone Section Chief will provide leadership support to the Zone Clinical Department Head and Facility Medical Directors with the assurance of efficient delivery of care and will lead quality and safety initiatives. The clinical program is delivered through a medical staff of 34 ophthalmologists and is based at the Eye Institute of Alberta at the Royal Alexandra Hospital with clinical care provided at the Institute as well as the Stollery Children’s Hospital, suburban hospital sites and chartered surgical facilities across the Edmonton Zone.
