CARRE (Clinic for Ambulatory Rehabilitation, Research and Education) is seeking a full-time Director who is responsible for recruiting, evaluating and training participants for on-going and new research projects. CARRE is a research translational facility, housed in Corbett Hall at the University of Alberta. We aim to develop better methods for retraining walking and related functions after injuries to the nervous system. Our current focus is on two multi-centre clinical trials for young children with perinatal brain injury, along with two smaller studies on adults with spinal cord injury or stroke. The Director is part of a team involved in the latest research for improving walking and mobility in persons with neurological challenges, and will work with researchers, other clinicians, students and volunteers.                     

Responsibilities include:

  • Recruiting and screening research participants
  • Coordinating multi-centre research trials
  • Training participants according to research protocols
  • Performing or assisting with clinical, biomechanical and neurophysiological measurements
  • Preparing data for interpretation and publication, including analyzing and plotting data
  • Supervising volunteers and students
  • Assisting with study registration on government websites
  • Preparing ethics applications, literature searches, and manuscripts
  • Managing the laboratory

The successful applicant will have:

  • Minimum education of Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Therapy; Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy is preferred
  • Licensed to practice as a physical therapist in Alberta
  • Experience working with young children is highly desirable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills are an asset

This trust funded position has an end date of one year from the date of hire, with the possibility of renewal, and has an anticipated start date in mid-March 2020. Annual salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
