The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Family Medicine, in collaboration with Covenant Health and Alberta Health Services (AHS) is inviting applications for an academic family physician to be an Assistant Program Director within the family medicine residency program.

Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health education institutions. Reporting to the Postgraduate Program Director, this position addresses resident well-being and supports residents in difficulty. The tasks are to:

  • Identify residents in difficulty including academic, professionalism or health related issues
  • Work proactively to identify and formulate strategies to promote wellness and balance in residency training
  • Work with learners, faculty advisors, preceptors, site directors, and other, to develop and deliver customized learning plans
  • Coordinate presentations to the adjudicatory Residency Program Committee
  • Engage with and work collaboratively with PGME, the Learner Advocacy and Wellness office, CPSA and other partners.

General duties include:

  • Assisting in the implementation of national accreditation standards
  • Assisting with residency candidate selection during the CaRMS and AIMG processes each year
  • Representing the Program Director when necessary
  • Assisting with preparations for surveys associated with accreditation, internal reviews and other matters

The successful candidate will join a growing complement of academic family physicians at the Grey Nuns Family Medicine Centre, a clinical education joint venture between Covenant Health, AHS, and the University. The incumbent, in addition to their scholarly and research activities, will provide classroom and office-based teaching as well as clinical sessions that model interdisciplinary team practice.

This position is a full-time, contingent, tenure-track faculty position. The academic salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be supplemented with compensation for protected teaching, research, and program administration time from the Alberta Academic Medicine and Health Services Program. Candidates with advanced degrees awarded or in progress are preferred. Certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada or equivalent is required. Applicants must also be eligible for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
