The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor (Special Continuing) faculty position. The candidate will hold a primary appointment in the Department of Oncology and an adjunct appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, and will be expected to actively participate in clinical research and teaching activities within the Departments.  This position will be held in conjunction with the role of a full-time Director within the discipline of Hematology and Hematological Malignancies.  The position will be based at the Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) in Edmonton.

The successful candidate will assume responsibility for all apheresis collection and cellular therapy clinical services including staffing, medical leadership, clinical education, equipment and consumables previously delivered by Canadian Blood Services (CBS).  Although this is a focused administrative leadership position, there remains additional frontline patient care expectations. The successful candidate will join a team of multidisciplinary cancer programs and a team of Medical and Radiation Oncologists, Hematologists, Nurse Practitioners and other medical support staff in the Edmonton Zone.  Responsibilities will include participation in ambulatory clinics for patients with lymphoproliferative disorders, and attending duties on the inpatient lymphoma/myeloma/autologous stem cell transplant unit at the CCI.  Other responsibilities will include maintaining academic involvement in the malignant hematology program (through either clinical trial activity or other research and educational endeavors), participation in local and provincial tumor team based activities including clinical case reviews at tumor board rounds, annual, provincial tumor team meetings, local quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives.

CCI, Edmonton operates within a provincial framework for cancer care supported by provincial clinical guidelines and standards, focused on patient centered care.  CCI is a free-standing integrated cancer treatment and research facility that functions as the tertiary oncology referral centre for Northern Alberta.  CCI is a leader in innovative cancer research, prevention, treatment, and care initiatives.  This cancer centre sees both in-and out-patients, currently treating over 21,000 patients in one year.

The academic rank will depend upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.


Candidates must have an MD with certification in Hematology and Internal Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), and must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Candidates should have additional specialized training and expertise in the area of lymphoproliferative disorders, including lymphomas, multiple myeloma and autologous stem cell transplantation. They must read, write, and speak English fluently.
