Closing Date  -    Jan 25, 2019

This opportunity is open only to current employees of the Faculty of Science of the University of Alberta; The selected candidate will be a tenure-track or tenured Assistant or Associate Professor in the Faculty of Science.

The Faculty of Science at the University of Alberta plans to nominate a candidate for an open Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) position. We are seeking researchers who will advance the Faculty’s goals of diversity in our CRC cohort and faculty renewal in our strategic research areas. A particular emphasis of this competition will be conservation related research in marine and freshwater ecosystems, but we welcome applications in all related areas.

Tier 2 CRCs are intended for exceptional emerging researchers (i.e., candidates must have been an active researcher in their field for frewer than 10 years at the time of nomination), acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field.  They are tenable for five years and are eligible for renewable once. Candidates must have been active researchers in their field for less than 10 years at the time of nomination. Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave) may have their eligibility for a Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process. For full program information, including details on eligibility criteria, please consult the University of Alberta CRC Coordinator or the Canada Research Chairs website: for full program information.  The University recognizes the legitimate impact that leaves (e.g., parental leave, leave due to illness) can have on a candidate’s record of research achievement and that these leaves will be taken into careful consideration during the assessment process.

The successful applicant will be nominated for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair. Nominations are subject to review by the CRC Secretariat, and appointment as a Canada Research Chair is conditional upon their approval.
