The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry invites current University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry tenure track faculty to apply for the position of the Chair of the Department of Physiology.  The Department of Physiology has 14 faculty members and counts several areas of investigation among its research strengths including Neuroscience, Cardiovascular Physiology, Perinatal Physiology and Cellular Physiology. Many of these areas of research span broadly across disciplines and have extensive collaborations across the Faculty and University. The Department also has well-established undergraduate and graduate programs. 

The Faculty is seeking an established researcher to motivate and engage the faculty members, to inspire excellence in education and research and to further enhance collaboration within the Department, faculty and broader University Community. The Department Chair is responsible for creating an environment in which the strategic plan of the Department is clearly articulated, supported and executed. The successful candidate will be an active advocate for the Department and will be collegial and consultative in his or her leadership to drive strategic growth initiatives, educational innovation and work towards maximizing research output within the Department. The successful candidate will be a PhD or an MD/PhD (or equivalent) with a strong research profile and broad knowledge and understanding across many areas of research strength currently or potentially within the Department. Interested candidates should submit a 2-3 page letter of introduction outlining relevant research, education, leadership experiences, and any history of commitment to an equitable and just health system for Indigenous peoples and other diverse populations; an up-to-date curriculum vitae;  a statement of current academic interests, and the names of three references. Interested individuals are asked to submit their material by February 11, 2022; however, the competition will remain open until the position is filled. 

COVID-19 Vaccination: Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 in compliance with the University’s COVID-19 Vaccination Directive. Fully Vaccinated means a status an individual achieves 14 days after having received the recommended number of doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada or the World Health Organization, and requires the individual to maintain the recommended number and type of vaccine doses as updated and required by Health Canada thereafter.
