We invite applications for one postdoctoral fellow position to work on a project in Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The position starts from January 2021, and is 1 year with the possibility for renewal.


  • Conduct high quality research under the guidance of senior researchers.
  • Develop automated liquid-liquid extraction and microanalytic device based on surface nanodroplets
  • Combine the process of sample preparation with online chemical quantification by sensitive techniques, such as fluorescence, infrared, Raman microscopes and others
  • Design, microfabricate and test a prototype device for microanalysis of body fluids
  • Be passionate about technology transfer and to effectively communicate the findings with potential end users
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in high impact journals
  • Keep abreast of international research trends and outcomes in relevant areas, and make significant contributions to the applications of fundamental knowledge
  • Maintain contact with relevant departments of universities and other institutions and liaise actively with international collaborators and business development partners
  • Be familiar with all relevant laboratory safety codes and practices
  • Be willing to travel overseas (when entirely safe to do so), mostly Europe, for collaborations.


  • PhD or equivalent research experience in analytic chemistry, microfluidics or biosensing.
  • Highly developed skills in chemical quantification, molecular spectroscopy, and microanalysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake independent research evidenced by publications, and development of new research initiatives.
  • Demonstrated initiative in research and problem solving and interest in interdisciplinary research and technology transfer.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a research team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with students, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary international collaboration.
  • Self-starter and motivator with the mind-set of focusing on deliverables and getting the job done in time.
