The University of Alberta and College of Social Sciences + Humanities invites applications for the appointment of Dean, Faculty of Law. The University of Alberta Faculty of Law is Western Canada's most prestigious law school and one of Canada's leading institutions of legal education and research. For more than 100 years, the faculty has been at the forefront of legal scholarship in Canada, fostering generations of thought leaders. 

The Faculty of Law offers 3 unique accredited graduate degrees, including: Juris Doctor, Master of Laws, and Doctor of Philosophy and a unique variety of additional learning opportunities including: study abroad options, LSAT summer preparatory courses and the Internationally Trained Lawyer Pathway.  

Reporting to the Vice-Provost and Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Dean of the Faculty of Law is responsible for the leadership and administration of all aspects of the operations of the Faculty, including budget and fund development. In addition to the role of senior officer of the Faculty, and a member of Deans’ Council, the Dean is a senior administrator of the University. The Dean fosters an environment in which world-leading research and excellence in teaching and engaged scholarship flourish. As the face of the Faculty of Law, the Dean is champion of curricular initiatives, research, and scholarship, professional training, global outreach, and recruitment of high-quality faculty and student talentThe Dean cultivates an environment in which students, faculty and staff thrive. 

As Dean, you will have an earned Doctorate or equivalent in Law and qualifications commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Professor. In addition, you are a scholar who has maintained an active program in research and teaching within an academic environment. You will be a dynamic and visionary leader with a demonstrated track record of fostering a culture of collegiality and collaboration within an interdisciplinary university environment for faculty, staff, and students. With an authentic and demonstrated commitment to, understanding of, and experience leading equity, diversity, and inclusion practices and Indigenous engagement, the successful candidate will drive change and inspire faculty, students, staff, and community partners.

The College of Social Sciences and Humanities combines strengths in arts, business, education and law to expand the boundaries of knowledge and understanding of ourselves and our society and to lead research and teaching that fosters a creative, equitable, inclusive, just and democratic society, with opportunity and well-being for all. The college includes 4 faculties (Alberta School of Business, Arts, Education, and Law), more than 510 faculty members, and more than 15,000 undergraduate and graduate students. 

This is a global search that is an open competition where the committee will consider both internal and external candidates.  

This position is a full-time, continuing appointment and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits and an annual salary of $290,055 to $429,710.
