Department/Faculty Summary

The Department of Surgery is comprised of 15 divisions and offers programs in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies. The department also includes many research groups who contribute to cutting edge advancements in areas such as transplantation, joint preservation and regeneration, and surgical simulation technology. Founded in 1922, the department has been a leader in its field, striving to achieve a balance between technology and the human element that defines the art of surgery. The overarching mission of the department and its divisions is to restore health through surgical intervention, remembering patient dignity and comfort are integral to overall heath. Position Summary

The Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services, Edmonton Zone, invites applications for the dual appointed roles of Divisional Director (Division of Otolaryngology, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry), and Zone Section Chief (Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery).

The Division and Zone Clinical Section of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery in Edmonton, Alberta, is composed of 28 clinicians and faculty members renowned for innovative clinical care, research, teaching and global health initiatives. These activities take place on the campus of the University of Alberta, and at Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health sites.

Duties

The position requires an individual with a strong reputation for leadership who will lead with excellence within the University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services. The Divisional Director reports to the Chair, Department of Surgery, and is a complex and demanding role of providing the management and leadership necessary to promote successful academic endeavours through collaborative work with senior leadership. Responsibilities will include leadership support to the Chair in areas such as strategic planning and administration, academic and clinical programming, and fostering internal and external divisional and zone relationships. The Divisional Director is a part-time role and will comprise an administrative portion of assigned duties.

The Zone Section Chief provides leadership support to the Zone Clinical Department Head, the Facility Site Section Chiefs, the Section Leads, Facility Medical Directors, senior leaders and allied professionals in order to ensure appropriate and quality care through the efficient use of resources and will be responsible for the development of quality and safety initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful applicant must be an Otolaryngologist - Head and Neck Surgeon eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta, who is recognized for his or her clinical acumen and dedication to quality care as well as scholarly accomplishment in research and education. Preference will be given to individuals with administrative experience in an academic and clinical setting.
