The Division of Surgical Research within the University of Alberta conducts research throughout a range of investigation from molecular and cell biology, to translational and educational research, to multicenter randomized clinical trials. The Surgical Research team supports and promotes discovery and clinical research with a focus on developing the research abilities of trainees and fostering the synergistic potential of collaboration between basic scientists and clinician scientists. The Division supports the mission of the Department to restore health through surgical intervention, remembering patient dignity and comfort are integral to overall health, and is committed to excellence in creating important knowledge and better treatments for patients. Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Babita Agrawal, Professor, the Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to ongoing research studies focused in viral and cancer immunology, as well as immune regulation.

Duties

  • Work collaboratively with PI to plan and execute experiments
  • Perform projects related to viral and tumor vaccine and immunotherapy using mouse models and human cells ex vivo
  • Perform immunology techniques including cell culture, flow cytometry, Western, PCR, IP, confocal and fluorescence microscopy
  • Summarize data and disseminate results
  • Day to day laboratory maintenance duties including managing safety guidelines
  • Supervise undergraduate students

Qualifications

  • PhD in immunology or a related field completed within the past 5 years
  • Experience working in a research laboratory environment
  • Extensive experience with cell culture, flow cytometry, and other immunology experiment techniques
  • Demonstrated knowledge of immunology
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Apps (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs), and statistical software (SPSS, STATA)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Highly developed organizational and time management skills including demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple concurrent projects with competing deadlines

This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, however part-time could be accommodated for the ideal candidate. The salary range begins at $37,795 CND per annum.
