The Division of Pediatric Surgery, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Alberta, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS) invites applicants to apply for the position of an academic Pediatric General Surgeon with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2019.

The successful applicant will join a group of four pediatric general surgeons who provide a full range of elective and trauma services to children up to the age of 18 years. The successful applicant is expected to have superior technical surgical skills, clinical judgment and the ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary health care team. Preference may be given to an individual who has, or is prepared to undertake, a Masters (or higher) degree.

The Division of Pediatric Surgery is an integral part of the Department of Surgery and provides secondary through quaternary care services for the city of Edmonton, northern Alberta and parts of British Columbia, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, Yukon Territories and Nunavut. This position will be based at the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH); a leading clinical, research, and teaching centre, treating more than 700,000 patients annually. This surgeon will work primarily at the Stollery Children’s Hospital (STO) a western Canadian referral centre for specialized pediatric services located within the UAH.

The candidate will be appointed to a Clinical Faculty appointment with the Department of Surgery, University of Alberta which involves participation in all aspects of the academic centre including clinical practice, research, teaching, and administrative activities.

The successful candidate must have certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with subspecialty Fellowship training in Pediatric General Surgery and be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Advanced laparoscopic training is considered essential. Remuneration will be on a fee-for-services basis through billings submitted by the physician to Alberta Health.
