The Division of Plastic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, and Covenant Health are accepting applications for a clinical academic Plastic Surgeon with training in hand and wrist surgery, as well as microsurgery. The successful candidate will also be expected to exhibit a strong academic research background Coverage will be primarily based at the University of Alberta Hospital with a flexible start date of January 1, 2019.

The Division of Plastic Surgery is a leader in the field with access to world-class facilities, cutting-edge technology and equipment, and multidisciplinary research and clinical groups. The Division’s innovative areas of research include nerve reconstruction and bioengineering skin to control burn scarring. Clinical services include the full scope of microsurgical procedures, from replantation of amputations to complex free tissue transfers. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry has been internationally recognized among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The Plastic Surgery program presently includes 15 plastic surgeons who provide specialized care in all domains of plastic surgery to the City of Edmonton and surrounding communities.

Alberta Health Services is Canada’s largest and only province-wide health region, which includes the University of Alberta Hospital. The site is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research, and teaching hospitals, providing services for a population of over 3 million people. The facility provides treatment for more than 700,000 patients annually from across Western and Northern Canada. It offers a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services.

Covenant is Canada’s largest Catholic provider of health care, with 26 Catholic facilities in 15 communities across Alberta. As a major provider in Alberta’s integrated health system, the Covenant family (Covenant Health, Covenant Care, and Covenant Living) works with Alberta Health Services and community partners to positively influence the health of Albertans through a broad range of programs and services in hospitals and health centres.

The successful applicant will have a job description which includes a commitment to clinical care delivery, education and research. Remuneration will be on a fee-for-service basis through billings submitted by the physician to Alberta Health. The successful candidate will care for surgical inpatients and outpatients, and participate in the on-call rota supporting the University of Alberta Hospital and the entire Edmonton Zone through a regional referral program covering Northern Alberta. The incumbent will also take part in the undergraduate and post-graduate surgery curricula at the University of Alberta. The successful candidate will be appointed to a clinical faculty position within the Department of Surgery at the appropriate level based on their qualifications.

Applicants must hold an MD or equivalent with completed training in Plastic Surgery and must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. This individual must have obtained the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Fellowship in Plastic Surgery or equivalent and have undergone recognized Fellowship training in Breast Reconstructive Surgery.
