The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Neurology in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for an Epilepsy Neurologist to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital/Kaye Edmonton Clinic. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff. 

The Division of Neurology consists of 60 neurologists in academic and community practice and 3 Scientists. UA is one of the largest stroke programs in Canada. Internationally recognized research is conducted and published from UA. All subspecialties of neurology are represented among the faculty in addition to stroke including: Autoimmune and Multiple Sclerosis, Cognitive Neurology, Epilepsy, Movement Disorders, Neuromuscular and ALS, Autonomic Neurophysiology, Headache Clinic. We have 5 research chairs among our Division. Neurology holds multiple CIHR, NIH, PCORI and other prestigious external grants. Our Neurology residency program is strong and accepts 5-6 residents/year. Stroke has an active, successful fellowship program with 7 fellows. Other subspecialties have fellowship programs as well resulting in a rich training environment. Call is equitably shared throughout the division and is typically 4-8 weeks/year.

The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Neurology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and have completed an epilepsy fellowship of 1-2 yearsRelevant graduate education is preferred. Evoked potential competency is preferred.

Key accountabilities of the Epilepsy Neurologist will include, but will not be limited to refractory epilepsy management, epilepsy monitoring unit experience, ICU EEG program development and sustainability, epilepsy syndrome diagnosis and managementEither graduate degree in Education, Public Health, Epidemiology or Science is required. Previous success in obtaining external peer-reviewed grant support and successful publication record are required.

The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Medicine, with the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
