The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary Medicine in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for an Academic Physician in Lung Transplant and Pulmonary Hypertension to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital.  Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.  The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff. 

The Division of Pulmonary Medicine provides a wide range of quaternary and tertiary clinical services in Pulmonary Medicine and Allergy, and is home to the second largest lung transplant program in Canada averaging 60-80 transplants annually.  In 2017, the Center for World University Rankings ranked the University of Alberta’s Transplant Program #6 worldwide.

Divisional members are active in the international research community in most fields of Pulmonary Medicine (https://www.ualberta.ca/department-of-medicine/divisions/pulmonary-medicine/publications).

The successful candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), have Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) certification in  Respirology and demonstrate a  proven academic track record in the field of lung transplant and/or pulmonary hypertension. 

Key accountabilities of the Respiratory/Pulmonary Hypertension physician will include, but will not be limited to participating in the Lung Transplant Program’s clinical roster (including inpatient ward, outpatient clinics, consultation, and bronchoscopy services). The successful candidate will also participate in the University of Alberta’s Pulmonary Hypertension Program and associated duties (outpatient clinics, consultation). Other responsibilities with include undergraduate and post graduate medical education and supporting clinical research/innovation within the division.

This academic position will have a clear focus on clinical and translational research in Lung Transplant and/or Pulmonary Hypertension. Therefore, a keen research interest and an academic track record in lung transplant and/or pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary medicine is expected.

The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Medicine, with the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.  

Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
