Post-doctoral Fellow in Pregnancy and Maternal-Child Health at the Canadian VIGOUR Centre

The Canadian VIGOUR Centre ( has an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated Post-doctoral Fellow to join a research team committed to the enhancement of pregnancy and maternal-child health.

The Post-doctoral Fellow will participate in several established research programs related to the short and long-term impact of pregnancy factors (diabetes, preeclampsia, preterm birth) on the health of the mother and the baby; and the impact of social, demographic, clinical, and pharmacological factors on the development of chronic disease, in both the mother and the offspring.

The Post-doctoral Fellow will participate in a full range of research activities, with particular focus on research design and knowledge dissemination via conference abstracts, presentations, reports, and peer-reviewed publications.

The candidate must have obtained a PhD or MD within the last 5 years and have research experience in a related field (maternal-fetal medicine, pregnancy, neonatology, perinatal epidemiology). Experience working in an academic research organization, and knowledge of epidemiology, population health concepts, and health care administrative databases are considered assets. The candidate must have very strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated ability to work independently, and manage time and expectations effectively. Publication of high-quality peer-reviewed research papers is the primary expectation of this position.

The candidate will be located at the CVC, at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.  The annual stipend offered will be consistent with those of other national agencies (CIHR, HSF of Canada) and may be renewable for up to 4 years, depending on funding and performance.
