Under the direction of the Platform Lead and Assistant Director of the Alberta SPOR SUPPORT Unit (AbSPORU) Knowledge Translation (KT) Platform, the SPOR KT Project Coordinator is responsible for leading high-level, complex research activities specific to knowledge translation (KT) and evidence synthesis projects. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the overall management and coordination of Knowledge Translation (KT) projects undertaken by the AbSPORU KT Platform. The individual will work with stakeholders to identify and develop KT plans (End-of-Grant KT or Integrated KT) and coordinate research activities and analysis specific to KT.

The incumbent will report to the Program Coordinator-Knowledge Translation and Implementation Science (KT&IS). The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the implementation and evaluation of a variety of research and knowledge translation initiatives. They will facilitate communication among team members, manage/coordinate the day-to-day operations of projects and manage the overall milestones and targets to ensure timely completion of the research projects.

Duties

  • Works closely with Program Coordinator-KT&IS and Assistant Director of the AbSPORU Knowledge Translation (KT) Platform to develop and refine specific key questions to be addressed by the external researchers and practitioners/clients assigned through the Research Alberta Portal
  • Prepares research protocols in compliance with funding agency requirements for external clients
  • Conducts quality analysis and assurance to ensure all procedures and processes are in compliance with the methodological approaches for KT
  • Oversees the design, development and maintenance of project databases to ensure data quality control
  • Designs and develops project materials based on knowledge translation models and frameworks such as the Knowledge to Action Cycle
  • Coordinates and manages day-to-day activities for all phases of KT projects
  • Leads the preparation of data analysis and coordinates the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators’ interpretation of results
  • Drafts written summaries of data analysis including figures and tables for evidence reports, scientific papers, posters and presentations
  • Prepares research publications based on research results to be submitted for peer-review, including draft and final reports, manuscripts, conference presentations and posters, educational materials and other forms of knowledge transfer and exchange
  • Establishes and maintains good communications with researchers and health care practitioners, the Principal Investigator, other platform staff, and other stakeholders, as required
  • Fosters the necessary stakeholder involvement to ensure timely activities, cooperation and progress of the project, as required
  • Ensures compliance with funding agency process and reporting requirements
  • Assembles and coordinates research team(s) of article retrieval personnel, research assistants and research librarian to complete KT projects as assigned
  • Reviews and assesses workloads of project personnel, provides support and redistributes work as necessary
  • Conducts informal training sessions for the project staff related to knowledge translation including integrated knowledge translation and end-of-grant knowledge translation.
  • Tracks milestones and timelines throughout the life cycle of research project(s) and develops and implements necessary changes to ensure milestones are met
  • Provides logistical support for education/research seminars, conferences, webinars and events
  • Develops publicity materials, such as email invitations, save-the-dates, posters, etc.
  • Coordinates technology software and equipment
  • Coordinates all registration processes
  • Administers pre- and post-event evaluations

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education, sociology, public health, health sciences, business, organizational analysis or in a relevant discipline is preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered; minimum Bachelor's degree
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in knowledge translation
  • Experience in ensuring research projects are running efficiently which includes facilitating and providing project specific training and determining and evaluating workload
  • University-level coursework in knowledge translation and/or patient oriented research is an asset
  • Ability to embrace change, adapt to new information, and work proactively and positively in an evolving organizational context
  • Ability to set priorities and manage changing/conflicting priorities and tight deadlines
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and accountably in a positive manner
  • Knowledge of the Canadian health care system is an asset
