The Alberta School of Business is seeking an Executive Director for our School of Retailing.

Working closely with and reporting to the Director, the Executive Director is responsible for all aspects of programming and the day-to-day operations of the Centre. This includes planning and administration, event management, educational programs, community outreach activities and management of the Student Consulting Group. The Executive Director will collaborate with students, industry partners and faculty members with the goal of enhancing interaction among these stakeholders, improving our students’ educational experiences and supporting our faculty engaged in retail research.

The mission for the School of Retailing is to be recognized as the foremost authority and source of retailing education in North America. The Centre aims to inspire and prepare students for successful career paths in retailing, produce a talented workforce for the retail sector, develop relevant education programs, and advance Canadian-relevant retail research that will benefit retail communities and promote excellence in retailing.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements business, marketing and strategic plans in collaboration with the Director. These plans will promote the School of Retailing programs/initiatives and attract/retain industry partners.
  • Manages budgets and revenue forecasts, negotiates contracts for services, approves invoices and maintains all the financial records of the Centre
  • Liaises with the Director and development professionals at the Alberta School of Business in planning fundraising activities
  • Manages all aspects of School of Retailing events including logistics that will advance the Centre’s strategic goals
  • Develops and implements educational programs based on the needs of our partners and ensures that the School of Retailing goals and targets are met
  • Leads research activities including gathering of information regarding retail industry trends
  • Collaborates with current partners to ensure that their needs are met and cultivates new opportunities for custom programs
  • Liaises with the Director and the undergraduate office to manage the minor/major in retailing programs and students engagement
  • Manages the client contact database, retains event sponsors, and maintains the relationship and communications between the School of Retailing and industry partners
  • Networks and secures opportunities with new industry partners
  • Develops the Advisory Committee Terms of Reference
  • Proactively promotes the awareness of the School of Retailing through community events and research initiatives to establish links between the faculty, students and the retail community
  • Collaborates with Business Career Services for placement of our graduates and co-op students in retail jobs
  • Develops strategies for creating and maintaining high levels of engagement among our students and industry partners including working closely with student groups/clubs
  • Leads the Student Consulting Group: recruits, trains and supervises student consultants, manages existing consulting clients and prospects new consulting clients

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Commerce; Master’s degree preferred
  • 5-10 years relevant experience including project management and research
  • Knowledge of the Canadian retail industry
  • Ability to conceive of, design and execute small and large scale events
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Skilled in office productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to use customer relationship management to keep in contact with stakeholders
  • Ability to build partnerships between the school and organizations in the retail industry
  • Strong communication skills, including the use of new and electronic media (ranging from email distribution programs and website design to social media and event management systems)

In accordance with the Temporary Administrative and Professional Staff (TAPS) Agreement, this position is a one year appointment and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits with an annual salary range of $61,391 to $102,355.
