The School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for tenured or tenure-track positions in Mining Engineering at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor level. Candidates within all areas of expertise in mining engineering are encouraged to apply. The research focus of the Mining Engineering at the University of Alberta is on surface mining. Research interest in the areas of risk assessment and management, environmental waste management and permitting, and project management would be an asset.
The successful candidate is expected to develop a significant independent research program, supervise graduate students and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in his or her fields of interest. All candidates must be licensed professional engineers with eligibility for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) and must have a PhD in Mining Engineering or in related fields. The successful candidate will preferably have mining industrial experience, good contacts within the industry, and will have strong communication and presentation skills.
The mining industry in Alberta and northern Canada is undertaking multi-billion dollar investment programs through expansion of operations and building new oil sand and diamond mines. These developments are expected to continue well into the future providing a strong and stable research environment for mining at the University of Alberta. Undergraduate and graduate student numbers in mining are at record highs, with students enjoying excellent support from industry. Currently, the Mining Engineering Program at the University of Alberta enrolls over 140 undergraduate and 35 graduate students.
