The University of Alberta’s School of Public Health is the only stand-alone Faculty of its kind in Canada, and the first in Canada to earn full accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health. Promoting population health and wellness, protecting health, preventing disease and injury, and reducing health disparities across Alberta, Canada and the world are its cornerstones. With 260 graduate students in MPH, MSC, and PhD programs, 37 core and 90 affiliated faculty members, and 108 staff, the School is committed to preparing public health leaders, to community engagement, and to excellence in research and its translation into practices and policies. As the School takes its place among distinguished public health schools worldwide, the opportunity to bring Alberta and Canada to the forefront of public health education, research and community service presents itself. A new era begins, and the University of Alberta seeks its next Dean of the School of Public Health. The appointment, for an initial five-year term, begins July 1, 2013.

The Dean, who reports to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), is senior officer of the Faculty and is responsible for the supervision and administration of the School's operations, including budget and fund development. The Dean fosters an environment in which world-leading research and excellence in teaching and engaged scholarship flourish. As the face of the School of Public Health, the Dean is champion of public health education, research and practice, and leads the School in sustaining and continuing its critical role with stakeholders in public health dialogue. As a member of Deans' Council, the Dean is a senior university administrator.
